100 % working solution for stuck at 2G problem!
Many of us are facing a common problem where our 3S / 3S Prime phones are not being able to latch onto 3G network. This occurs mostly in MIUI 8. A bug or what i dont know! Most of the time it is only in 2G. But, ultimately i was able to solve it. I hope that the same process will help you get 4G signals also properly, apart from 3G. Here is what you need to do...
So you just got updated to MIUI 8 and lost '3G' or '4G' signal? Fret not, follow these steps!
1. Take a backup of your phone first by going into Settings > Additional Settings > Backup and Reset > Local Backup and click Back Up to restore all your data. It will be saved inside MIUI\backup\AllBackup\ directory. Take a backup of the AllBackup folder by connecting your device with a computer so that you can restore everything after the process.
2. After the backup process go to Factory data reset inside that same Additional Settings location. Tap All files on the phone for a full factory reset. This process will take minutes. Dont worry.
3. After the reset process is completed the phone will boot up. You have to set up everything like your language prefs, keyboard etc. After these initial steps go to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Your service provider names > Access point names. In this page look at the bottom where you need to tap Reset to default for resetting the APNs.
4. Wait, you are not done yet because you will still not be getting 4G or even 3G network. Go to the Sim card settings and go to Preferred network type and select Prefer LTE. Now, the last step is to go back to the same SIM card settings page and tap Mobile networks and choose manually. The phone will search for networks and will give you a list of Mobile networks. There you will find your service provider name with a '4G' suffix. Tap that and wait for some seconds. Hold your breath...
5. If everything is ok you will now see your provider's name with 4G on top! Restart your device immediately to confirm all settings. After that call on your mobile and pick it up to check if the 4G returns even after you cut the call. You can now also select Prefer 3G, it will come but i have seen it does not come at all times. Even sometimes when 4G signal is not strong it will fall back at 3G.
Hope this helps. If this still doesnt solve your problem then Downgrade it to MIUI 7.
